AAHA Leadership Opportunities

Get Involved by Becoming a Leader in AAHA
Board of Directors
The American Animal Hospital Association is directed by a 14-member Board of Directors within the framework of the Bylaws of the Association. The Board of Directors consists of the four elected officers of AAHA (President, President-Elect, Vice President, and Treasurer/Secretary), Immediate Past President, seven Veterinarian Directors, one Practice Manager Director, one Veterinary Technician Director and the Executive Director who serves ex officio.
Board members are expected to serve as active leaders of AAHA and participate in Board meetings, conference calls, and email discussions. Many of the Directors serve on leadership groups, thus assuring close and continuing coordination between the policy-making body and the work of the leadership groups.
The Board of Directors meets three times each year to conduct the affairs of AAHA.
Leadership Groups
AAHA’s current leadership groups include committees, task forces, project teams, and advisory groups. Leadership groups may be established by the Board of Directors as needed.
Committees generally deal with ongoing programs of AAHA and remain in place until discharged, combined or divided by specific action of the Board of Directors. Committees are assigned a list of objectives and are charged with the responsibility to investigate, report on, and make recommendations to the Board that meet those objectives.
Task forces have a specific charge, are given a limited and specified time frame in which to operate, and are discharged following acceptance of their final report. Members of task forces often include those with a particular expertise relative to the task force's focus.
Project teams develop and implement new programs and services. As with task forces, members of project teams often bring related expertise to the team.
Advisory groups provide feedback and information to Board and staff. They help to propose or evaluate new programs or services and continuously seek to improve existing programs and services.
