According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Hill's Pet Nutrition, Inc. of Topeka, Kan., is voluntarily recalling 62 bags of Science Diet® Adult Small & Toy Breed™ dry dog food as they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The product was part of a single production run and was distributed to 17 veterinary clinics and pet store customers in California, Hawaii, and Nevada between April 24 and May 13, 2014. ...more

Banfield Pet Hospital released the State of Pet Health 2014 Report on April 15. Collected from the more than 850 Banfield veterinary hospitals, which are located in 43 states nationwide, the report summarizes medical data collected from more than 2.3 million dogs and 470,000 cats cared for at Banfield hospitals. According to the Pet Nutrition Alliance, the Robert Abady Dog Food Co., LLC, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., is recalling its 2 lb., 5 lb., and 15 lb. boxes of "Abady Highest Quality Maintenance & Growth Formula for Cats" because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Those infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. ...more

Pro-Pet LLC, St. Marys, Ohio, has initiated a voluntary recall of a limited number of Dry Dog and Cat Foods for possible Salmonella contamination. A single field test indicated products manufactured during a two day period, on a single production line may have the potential for Salmonella contamination. Pro-Pet LLC is voluntarily recalling the potentially impacted products made during this timeframe. There have been no reports of illness related to this product to date. ...more
