Commitment to Excellence

Video: Dr. Minott Pruyn
VIDEO: Hear why Dr. Michele Drake appreciates AAHA for helping her practice strive for excellence.

Since its beginning, AAHA has remained committed to excellence. The founders were convinced that small animal practice was important and that it was necessary to provide better facilities and methods than generally were available. That philosophy is still alive and well as a guiding principle of AAHA today. It has helped stimulate and maintain the growth and development not only of the association, but of the practice of small animal medicine throughout the world.

Today AAHA is respected internationally for its dedication to professional development, for its hospital standards, its Guidelines and Initiatives and for the excellence of its education programs.

AAHA's accredited members set themselves apart in a variety of ways,* including:

  • Owning more established practices than nonmembers, with an average of 28.7 years at their current locations
  • Owning larger practices, with an average number of 2.9 full-time-equivalent veterinarians, compared to 1.9 for nonmembers
  • Owning practices with more support staff per veterinarian with 5.1 support staff per full-time equivalent veterinarian
  • Having higher total revenue than nonmember practices, with an average of $1.7 million for 2007 vs. $854,000 for nonmembers
  • Earning a higher average revenue per FTE veterinarian in 2007 with an average of $626,037 vs. $450,393 for nonmembers
  • Having a higher average transaction charge, with an average of $119 vs. $109 for nonmembers
